Everything Kinto Capture does, what every setting means, and how to fix the things that usually go wrong.
1. Overview
Kinto Capture asks guest shoppers for an email once, early — right after they add something to the cart — with a clear consent checkbox. If they agree, you get a contact you would otherwise never have had, and their checkout is prefilled so it's faster for them too.
Why the timing matters. An abandoned cart and an abandoned checkout are not the same thing. A shopper who adds products, browses a little more, and closes the tab never reaches a checkout page — so a plugin that captures the email at checkout never sees them at all. Most tools in the abandoned cart category work that way: the label covers the whole funnel, the mechanism covers the end of it. Kinto Capture asks at add to cart, which is the one moment every abandoning shopper passes through.
In short, Kinto Capture:
- Asks after add to cart, not at checkout, where most abandoning shoppers are already gone.
- Asks once per session, in a small popover that doesn't block the page.
- Records only shoppers who tick the consent box, with a timestamped consent record.
- Stores leads in your own WordPress database. Nothing is sent to Kinto. The one exception is the feature request form, which sends your email address and your message, and only when you submit it.
- Is free and unlimited. No lead cap, no trial, no feature held back, and no Kinto branding on the prompt unless you choose to add it.
- Never sends email on your behalf. You export the leads and use your own email tool.
2. What Kinto Capture doesn't do
Kinto Capture does one job. Knowing what it refuses to do is the fastest way to tell whether it fits your store.
- It doesn't send email. No recovery emails, no campaigns, no automations, no SMS. It captures and hands off.
- It doesn't capture silently. No keystroke listeners, no pre-ticked boxes, nothing stored before an explicit opt-in.
- It doesn't store anonymous carts. No background tables quietly growing to millions of rows for visitors who never consented.
